چکیده

We propose a new concept of the effective properties of composites with uncertain spatial arrangements of constitutive materials and within-material properties. Rather than replacing a heterogeneous property with a constant effective parameter, we seek to preserve the internal macro structure of a composite. This general concept is used to derive the effective conductivity of composite heterogeneous media that consist of two materials whose internal geometries and conductivities are uncertain. Our analysis relies on a random domain decomposition to explicitly account for the separate effects of material and geometric uncertainties on the ensemble moments of pressure and flux. We present a general expression for the effective (apparent) conductivity of such media and analyze it in detail for oneand two-dimensional steady flows in bounded random media composed of two materials with highly contrasting conductivities.

Comparison of Two Computational Microstructure Models for Predicting Effective Transverse Elastic Properties of Unidirectional Fiber Reinforced Composites

Characterization of properties of composites has attracted a great deal of attention towards exploring their applications in engineering. The purpose of this work is to study the difference of two computational microstructure models which are widely used for determining effective transverse elastic properties of unidirectional fiber reinforced composites. The first model based on the classic me...

Effective transport properties of random composites: continuum calculations versus mapping to a network.

The effective transport properties and percolation of continuum composites have commonly been studied using discrete models, i.e., by mapping the continuum to a lattice or network. In this study we instead directly solve the continuum transport equations for composite microstructures both analytically and numerically, and we extract the continuum percolation threshold and scaling exponents for ...

Elastic property of multiphase composites with random microstructures

We propose a computational method with no ad hoc empirical parameters to determine the elastic properties of multiphase composites of complex geometries by numerically solving the stress–strain relationships in heterogeneous materials. First the randommicrostructure of the multiphase composites is reproduced in our model by the random generation-growth method. Then a high-efficiency lattice Bol...

Thermo-mechanical properties of polymer nanocomposites reinforced with randomly distributed silica nanoparticles- Micromechanical analysis

A three-dimensional micromechanics-based analytical model is developed to study thermo-mechanical properties of polymer composites reinforced with randomly distributed silica nanoparticles. Two important factors in nanocomposites modeling using micromechanical models are nanoparticle arrangement in matrix and interphase effects. In order to study these cases, representative volume element (RVE)...

Investigations on the Reinforcement of Mechanical Properties of Gypsum Composites Containing E-glass Woven Fabrics

Glass fiber reinforced gypsum composites are new building materials that have been used in covering interior walls. Reinforcement by means of woven fabrics as a three dimensional material is an alternative to the use of short fibers. The application of appropriate fabrics can improve mechanical properties of gypsum composites. The aim of this research article is to investigate the effect of the...
